On Sunday 21st June 2015, clergy in all parishes of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle read a Statement from Bishop Greg Thompson, in which he apologised for the hurts inflicted on people by members of the Church through sexual abuse and bullying, and promised to see these addressed as far as possible and steps taken that this should not occur again.

“To you who have experienced abuse I want you to know as a Diocese we feel shame and profound regret that people within the Church harmed you and harmed you again when you came forward to speak of what had happened.”
